Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and with over 8,000 restaurant options in the city, it can be tough to decide where to take your significant other this February 14th. While Los Angeles has no shortage of great food, when it comes to a memorable meal, ambiance is admittedly just as important as the delicious morsels you’re about to consume. Luckily, I’m here to help you narrow it down. Keep reading to discover the 15 most romantic restaurants in Los Angeles.
1. FIREFLY – STUDIO CITY
This cozy patio in Studio City boasts a fireplace, ivy-laden walls, and a windowed roof that lets you dine under the stars. A hidden gem in Studio City, Firefly is an easy choice for Valley and Laurel Canyon dwellers looking for a romantic night out.
2. SPERANZA – LOS FELIZ
Speranza seems pretty unassuming when you are approaching from Hyperion, but once you cross the threshold, you immediately enter an idyllic jungle known for its Italian food and private nooks. Sample some squid ink pasta and wash it down with a delectable red, while you whisper sweet nothings in your own overgrown corner.
3. LITTLE BEAST RESTAURANT – EAGLE ROCK
Little Beast is indeed a little-known power house in the up-and-coming Eagle Rock neighborhood. The exterior is reminiscent of the area’s craftsman master pieces and once inside, you’re greeted by inviting leather benches, low lighting, and an intimate patio littered with cafe lights and teal chairs. The comfort food only adds to the feeling that you’re eating at a chic house party on the east side with classics like cheeseburgers, matchstick french fries, and crispy brussels sprouts.
4. AOC – BEVERLY GROVE
AOC is every vinophile’s dream come true and every inch of decor inside and on their infamous patio adds to the experience. The red brick fireplace, burnt orange velvet booths, weathered wood, and stunning mosaic tiles feel like a rustic-chic European villa. Make a reservation and prepare to score some points with your loved one over Californian-French favorites, like wood-oven roasted brioche with gruyere, prosciutto and egg.
5. MANUELA – ARTS DISTRICT
Set in a beautiful antique warehouse off the streets of LA, Manuela serves up innovative cuisine that reflects all the best parts of California. It’s a restaurant where “chef, farmer and artist come together,” to create farm-fresh plates. In addition to the delicious artistic dishes, you have an extensive bar menu with classic cocktails using house-made bitters and tonics.
6. PERCH LA – DOWNTOWN
Perched (had to) high above downtown Los Angeles, Perch has mastered the art of the stylized rooftop restaurant. The perfectly poised arches, dripping with greenery, sit on mosaic tiles, adorned with glass-topped tables and cafe lights. Sit amongst clusters of the tallest buildings in the city, enjoying French small plates and cocktails galore on the infamous terrace with your date.
7. SCOPA ITALIAN ROOTS – VENICE
Scopa Italian Roots has perfected the dark New York burroughs restaurant-bar. The backlit shelves of booze stretch to the ceiling, providing some of the only artificial light in the restaurant, and causing the black leather booths and the polished wood bar and tables to glow a faint and inviting amber color. Snuggle in and order a craft cocktail and al dente pasta to Lady & The Tramp in the candlelight.
8. HATCHET HALL – CULVER CITY
This fun eatery is known for its funky wines, southern culinary delights, and vintage decor. You can sit on the front terrace to enjoy outdoor dining amongst greens and string lights or make your way inside to the bar, adorned with eclectic knickknacks and taxidermy. Want it even darker and sexier? Make your way to a booth in the small bar at the very back of the restaurant by entering through the saloon doors near the bathroom. Oh and don’t forget to order the cornbread.
9. REPUBLIQUE – MIRACLE MILE / LA BREA
Republique is a no-brainer when it comes to romance. Built like a French hall (and decked with some of the most perfect tile), you’ll feel transported to Europe while sitting behind the floor-to-ceiling windows and enjoying your foie gras. This one is sure to impress for every meal from breakfast to dinner.
10. GWEN – HOLLYWOOD
Gwen is a prime date spot for any couple who wants to go all out for a meal. This meat-centric fine dining experience is not for the vegan, vegetarian, or thrifty diners, but it is certainly an experience. Wow your lady or gent with the romantic art deco setting and a star-studded clientele. You can eat at the bar if you want to get out a bit cheaper, but most anyone who’s been will insist that the 10 course tasting menu is not to be missed.
11. GJELINA – VENICE
Gjelina is the crowned jewel of Venice’s fine dining and the brainchild of chef, Travis Lett. Its rustic wood and mix and match painted metal furniture add character and its wine and oven-roasted pizzas make it the perfect place for a romantic, al-fresco evening. The ivy-laden back patio (near one of their outdoor heaters) is where you want to be.
12. THE LITTLE DOOR – BEVERLY GROVE
The Little Door has been a quintessential restaurant for date night since its inception. The white table clothed, chandelier-embellished patio boasts pops of ivy and cobalt blue. Sit on a pillowed bench amongst the archways and cuddle up while sampling French brasserie fare.
13. CLIFF’S EDGE – SILVER LAKE
Cliff’s Edge is disguised amongst plain-seeming store fronts on Sunset Blvd in Silver Lake. Once you pass through the ornate, carved door, you enter into a whimsical garden terrace, where the whole restaurant seems to curl around a giant tree in the center. You can dine right under it or head up weaving staircases to nooks in the tree tops, where you perch on French bistro chairs or lounge on pillowed banquettes.
14. CECCONI’S – WEST HOLLYWOOD
This swanky West Hollywood restaurant is a charming mix of old Hollywood luxury and crisp mid-century modern. The blue, marble, and dark wood accents and an interior dining room that bleeds out into a terrace, almost imperceptibly, makes for the perfect place to enjoy Italian cuisine.
15. MADERA KITCHEN – HOLLYWOOD
Madera Kitchen has several eclectic spaces all within the same restaurant and bar. Inside, you’ll find a periwinkle blue space, divided from a yellow space by barrels, both facing a bar that runs the length of the room. On the patio, there is a roaring white fireplace, set amongst vines, a brick and painted section with barstools, an area of wooden banquettes surrounded by sunflower yellow walls and hanging light fixtures, and a section that opens to the sky above and is covered with saplings and twinkling cafe lights. Aim for a table near the fireplace or under the string lights and share one of their flatbreads to start the evening off right.
