Anyone who knows me well, knows I take great joy in a relaxing bubble bath when I travel and I have been known to select a hotel for the express purpose of visiting a coveted tub. After several years of field research, I’ve rounded up the 5 best bath tubs in the world to share with you. Unpack your bubble bath, uncork some wine, and send these right to the top of your bathing bucket list.
GLEN OAKS BIG SUR – BIG SUR CABIN – BIG SUR, CALIFORNIA
Set in the middle of your own private redwood forest backyard, these two side-by-side tubs in front of a fire pit make it nearly impossibly to leave your room. For those who appreciate nature and seclusion minus the hike (or perhaps after the hike), this cabin is a must. Reserve well in advance as it tends to book up quickly at this boutique property.
BAMBU INDAH – AFRIKA HOUSE – UBUD, BALI, INDONESIA
There is nothing quite like a tub with a view…unless it is a golden tub with a view. Bambu Indah’s unparalleled architecture makes the entire property feel like a tranquil and whimsical forest garden, but the tub in their largest house, Afrika House, faces out onto endless greenery (and no other buildings) so you can relax in your birthday suit right on your front porch.
HOTEL MARIENLYST – SEA VIEW JUNIOR SUITE – HELSINGØR, DENMARK
If a tub with a little less nature is more your speed, I highly recommend the luxury of the Hotel Marienlyst’s Sea View Junior Suite. This tub fast-tracked its way onto my list of the best bath tubs around the world from the moment I laid eyes on its shiny gold claw feet and large bay window, looking out onto the ocean. This clawfoot masterpiece faces out onto the romantic rocky shores of the water that separates Denmark from Sweden. On a clear day, you can see all the way across from your bath and step out onto your balcony to view the castle that inspired Shakespeare’s Hamlet. For a truly unforgettable experience, open your balcony doors for fresh sea air and run your bath before sunrise. There’s nothing quite like starting your day with a soak while bathed in the oranges, purples, and pinks of the sun rising over Scandinavia.
ONSEN HOT POOLS – SPA – QUEENSTOWN, SOUTH ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND
While these tubs are at a spa and not a hotel, that does not make them any less impressive. Situated just above the Shotover River, you can enter your own private room complete with a shower, fresh fluffy towels, and a wood hot tub. Raise the glass door to open up the tub to the fresh New Zealand air and order some bubbly for a relaxing afternoon on the South Island. Book in advance online to secure a spot and consider whether you’d prefer the daytime river views or a dreamy sunset soak.
AZULIK TULUM – SEA VILLA – TULUM, MEXICO
Azulik Tulum has some of the most impressive architecture on Tulum’s stretch of beach, despite some seriously stiff competition. Their villas immerse you in the native surroundings by taking away the typical luxury of electricity and leaving you with stunning one-of-a-kind tubs, round mosquito-netted beds, and giant glass doors that open to the sea. These villas are also a two-for-one when it comes to tubs, boasting a wood and mosaic tub and swing inside AND another tub on the balcony, with a perfect view of the aquamarine shoreline. I personally prefer the balcony tub, but certainly put them both to good use.
